Introduction to Knitting - Join us to learn the basics of knitting!

Project: Dishcloth

Description:
2 - 1.5 hour classes

Dates: July 27, 2018 1 – 2:30 pm
August 3, 2018 1 – 2:30 pm

Skills Needed:

None! Our beginner class is for those new to the craft or those who haven’t knitted for a while and need a refresher course.

Skills Learned:

• Knit stitch
• Purl stitch
• Cast on
• Bind off
• Common knitting terms
• Stockinette stitch
• Garter stitch

Materials Needed:
• Worsted weight cotton yarn in a light color. Suggested yarns:
o Tajik Stacy Charles Cotton Classic 1 skein
o Cascade Nifty Cotton 1 skein
o Cascade Luna 1 skein
• US 7 (4.5 mm) needles, straight or circular.
• Darning needle.

Preparation:

Pre-purchase yarn and needles at least 30 minutes prior to class.

Want to take your knitting to a new level? Learn how to double knit! Double knitting is a technique that creates two fabrics simultaneously on one pair of needles.

Project: Primrose Scroll Cowl

Description:
3 classes

Cost: $65.00

Dates: August 25, 2018. 12 to 3 pm
In class 1, you will learn provisional cast on, creating a folded or integrated hem, the basics of double knitting, reading a chart for double knitting, using lifelines and creating a swatch in the round.

September 8, 2018. 12 to 2 pm
In class 2, you will learn how to adjust your needle size and/or knitting style to obtain gauge, correcting errors in double knitting, and tracking yarn requirements.

September 29, 2018. 12 to 2 pm
In class 3, you will learn the Kitchener stitch and how to block your finished piece.

Skills Needed:

Advanced knitting skills including knit, purl, reading charts, and creating swatches for gauge. Knowledge of provisional cast on, folded hem, Kitchener stitch and stranded color work is helpful but not required.

Skills Learned:

• Provisional Cast on

• Double Knitting in the round
• Kitchener Stitch
• How to adjust knitting style to correct gauge
• Using lifelines

Materials Needed:
• 400 to 420yards each of fingering or sock weight wool in a main color and a contrasting color.
• Smooth scrap yarn (approximately 6 yards) for provisional cast on.
• Plastic locking stitch markers – 3 colors – 8 of each color.
• Marking tape – removable (such as Post – It 6 line tape)
• Yarn guide or knitting thimble.
• US Size 4 (3.5 mm) circular needles (24”)or size needed for gauge.
• US Size 2 (3.0 mm) circular needles (24”).
• Darning Needle.

Preparation:

Pre-purchase yarn and needles at least 30minutes prior to class.
